Known Windows 95 issues

What does not work?

In general, windows 95 has problems with popen. The transformation from windows paths to DOS paths also doesn't work. This causes:

• iblorb (available in the "Blorb settings" form) doesn't work at all
• DOS Frotz (for executing Z-Code) doesn't work at all
• Any popen calls, which means both inform versions, cause one of the stranges errors I've ever seen. I can only copy&paste it out of the german version:

  occurs 2 times. It means (I don't have an english windows 95)
  "General Error reading from device
  Abort, Retry, Error?"
  You must select the third option twice and then it works.

  Don't ask me why the hell it tries to read from the floppy disk!
  

What has been tried to get it work?

Zope comes woth Python 1.5.2 and some win32 extensions. This causes problems. To begin: I tried to run it with Python 1.6 and with Python 2.0 and also with ActivePython 2.0. Neither of them works.

I tried to install Python 1.5.2 separately from www.pythonlabs.com and then to install separately the win32 Extensions for 1.5.2 from Mark Hammond's personal pages. The win32 Extension don't recognize the Zope Python 1.5.2 as to extend, so I changed the Python path in the "start.bat"-file in the Python distribution to "C:\Programme\Python\python.exe".

The result of the whole exercise: it makes no difference. It just doesn't really work. :-(
